چکیده

Indication for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has been extended as the experience of ECMO in various clinical settings accumulates and the outcome after ECMO installation improves. We report two cases of successful mitral valve surgery for severe ischemic mitral regurgitation in patients on ECMO support for cardiogenic shock which developed upon coronary angiography.

Role of ECMO in neonatal myocardial infarction.

A neonate with myocardial infarction who failed to respond to conventional treatment was supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Severe mitral valve regurgitation necessitated mitral valve replacement while receiving ECMO following which the infant was successfully weaned. ECMO should be considered for potentially treatable causes of catastrophic heart failure.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in severe acute respiratory failure in postpartum woman with rheumatic mitral valve disease: benefit, factors furthering the success of this procedure, and review of the literature.

Pregnancy is a common decompensation factor for women with post-rheumatic mitral disease. However, valvular heart diseases causing severe acute respiratory distress are rare. Use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) early in the event of cardiorespiratory failure after cardiac surgery may be of benefit. Indeed, ECMO cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) support could help pulmonary recovery if ...

اثر PercutaneousCoronary Intervention Elective بر بهبودی نارسایی ایسکمیک میترال

Introdution: Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) remains one of the most complex and unresolved aspects of ischemic heart disease that the impact of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on improvement of intensity of ischemic mitral regurgitation is not well clarified. Patients with coronary artery diseases and ischemic mitral regurgitation have a worse prognosis than the patients with coro...

CRITICAL CARE ECHO ROUNDS: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

UNLABELLED Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an advanced form of organ support indicated in selected cases of severe cardiovascular and respiratory failure. Echocardiography is an invaluable diagnostic and monitoring tool in all aspects of ECMO support. The unique nature of ECMO, and its distinct effects upon cardio-respiratory physiology, requires the echocardiographer to have a so...

Prevention preferable to treatment: 3 case reports of patients experiencing right-sided heart failure after Ebstein anomaly correction

RATIONALE Ebstein anomaly is a common congenital heart disease that may induce severe tricuspid regurgitation and dilation of the "atrialized" portion of the right ventricle. Patients who undergo surgery to correct Ebstein anomaly are at high risk of postoperative right-sided heart failure, yet little is known about what pre-, peri-, or postoperative procedures may help reduce this risk. PATI...
